Autism maybe linked to defect in visual system development

I’ve wondered this – what if you took the GPU in a computer, and instead of putting its immense power to do graphics, you moved it to process something else like sound. This was novel in the 90’s, now we have OpenCL. What if in savants like Rainmman, a system in the brain get repurposed/miswired for something else? Like memory, or counting ? How would we know? We couldn’t but we might have some confidence if we see a notable deficiency in what that area is normally used to do. -B

Abnormal development of brain’s visual system may contribute to autism

“A research team, led by Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine, has identified abnormalities in the development of the brain’s visual system in infants that may predispose them to developing autism.”
